Tall Pines Campground in Bainbridge, NY

“One’s painted, one’s not.”

Ron’s words drew my attention to the road in front of us. As we crossed from New Hampshire into Vermont, two bridges sat side by side. One wore a fresh coat of light olive green; the other stood rusted, now used as a bike trail.

Traveling to New York, we spent most of our time driving along the mountain ridgeline. Up and down we went, a rollercoaster ride with sharp curves and constant changes.

Passing into New York just before 1:00 p.m.

Big Moose Country Store made quite the first impression.

Ruby maintained her pout throughout the entire six-and-a-half-hour drive.

We arrived at Tall Pines Campground and River Adventure just after 3:30. At site one, we started the procession of RVs that lined the left bank

With nothing on the agenda, we drove to Binghamton for Spiedie’s, their specialty. Chicken, grilled, then doused in “Spiedie sauce” and served on white bread.

Our friend, Baron, born and raised in Binghamton, now living in Virginia, introduced them to us years ago. And now, we’ve tried the original.

After lunch, we toured downtown Binghamton, which reminded us of Richmond and Norfolk. The city sits between two rivers

Needing groceries, we went to Wegman’s, a grocery store Ron had never visited. Though crowded, we found what we needed quickly and checked out.

And then we visited Dick’s House of Sports. A normal Dick’s store on steroids, with two levels and testing areas for golf, baseball, basketball, and soccer.

Once back at the campsite, we turned on the golf and took afternoon naps. Light rain bounced off the roof; its steady pitter-patter lulled us to sleep.

After Scottie Scheffler won the St. Jude’s tournament in Memphis and the rain stopped, we spent our last evening in NY by the fire.

While Ron went to get diesel, I took the pups for one last walk around the campground. Somehow, Rocco managed to get poop on his behind and back leg, so he got a quick bath before loading up in the crate.

By 8:00 a. m. Ron had chased a yellow jacket out of the truck cab and got us on the road to Gettysburg.
