“I didn’t know you were in OBX. I thought you moved back north.”
When I found out my high school friend, Rachelle, lived in OBX, I sent her a message on Facebook to reconnect. Thinking she had moved back to DuBois, PA, where we met, I didn’t realize she had moved back.
And so we booked a campsite and came for a long over due visit with my friend.

Arriving at noon, we quickly settled into site 18 and then rode our bikes to the beach. Meeting up with Dave and Lisa, we spent a few hours with them before they headed home from their getaway.
Rachelle and Steve arrived at six, and the evening flew by. We caught up on all things: family, friends, and faith.
As the hours slipped by, the conversation flowed effortlessly. From learning that Steve had worked as Linda Carter’s personal assistant and then Andy Griffith’s personal assistant for the last seven years of his life to their time in Massachusetts during COVID, we had lots to discuss.
Ron ans Steve both lived in Weaver Hall at JMU their freshman year of college, Steve there before Ron. They shared a passion for music, and now loved girls from DuBois, who shared a lifelong friendship that started in high school. The men had a lot in common. Ron’s face lit up as they discovered more similarities.
“What are the odds?” Became the common phrase of the night.
“What time is it?” Steve asked as the fire burned down, three logs now reduced to embers, still glowing in the night.
“11:40… wow!” Looking at my phone, I couldn’t believe how quickly the night had flown by—hopefully, the first of many.

With a late night came a lazy morning. Ron slept in with the pups while I read my Bible in the early morning sun.
Once Ron woke and the sun started to heat up, I went inside, cuddling with the pups while watching the women’s French Open final.

Re-creating a ride we did before we started dating, Ron and I set off for Duck just after 11:00 a.m. The first time we made this trek happened fifteen years ago on my birthday and the day cousin Patrick married Colleen.
A beach wedding, while shopping in Duck, we received the call that they had moved the wedding up an hour. I quickly bought a dress, then we hopped on our bikes amd hustled back just in time to watch them exchange their vows.
Today, we had no phone calls, but did enjoy lunch at Sunset Grille before making our way back, one pedal at a time.
Naps came quickly once we hit the air conditiomed camper.

We had a treat awaiting us at Nags Head Church, when the retired lead pastor, Rick spoke. Teaching us about the twelve apostles, he equipped us to go out and share the gospel with the joy of the Lord.

At 11:11 after watching the end of the second set Men’s French open final, I crawled in the truck for the trip home while Ron finished hooking up.
Another great weekend in OBX.
