Adopting four month old Ruby from New Rattitudes, she reminded us quickly about life with a puppy. Still in house training mode, afraid of stairs, she had lots to learn.
When Ron had work to do in OBX, we used it to introduce Ruby to camping life.

Site 20, lots of bugs, but also a lot of privacy.
Arriving at 6:00 Friday night, the geese greeted us at our private pond, at least it felt that way. However, the flies had sharp bites, and the hot, humid weather caused them to flourish.

We spent Friday night at the camper, leaving the pups for half an hour when we picked up the key for Ron’s work. Ruby did well in the camper, having no accidents. Sitting outside, we kept her on the leash because she had no problem jumping the pen fence.

When the Geese marched off the bed, we did the same, cuddling together on the queen-size bed. Ruby found her place between Ron and me, and Sophia and Rocco found their usual spots beside me.
Saturday, Ron went to work early, and the dogs and I sat outside, enjoying the quiet morning. We didn’t see any geese the rest of the weekend. After Sophia and Rocco did their business, they wanted to return to the a/c. Ruby stayed outside with me, tied to my chair, exploring while I read my Bible.
When Ron returned and realized he forgot to bring eggs, we decided to go out for breakfast. Eating at Stack’em High, the food came quickly once we got through the long line. Stopping by Publix and Pet Smart, we picked up supplies, then headed back to watch Coco Gauff win the French Open in three sets.

After watching two episodes of Sticks on Apple TV we decided to go for a bike ride and try out the new bike lane that runs from the campground to the beach.

We rode to Swells, had a quick pint, and then rode home to the pups. Watching the RBC Canadian Open, the boys napped on the converted table bed while the girls cuddled in the recliner.

Storms kept us inside most of the night, taking the dogs into the bug-infested world between them. On our walk around the campground, I learned Ruby has many fears of the dark, but the thunderstorms didn’t bother her.
Sunday morning, Ruby finally peed while on the leash and taught us that she likes to poop after breakfast.

Packing up before church, we left the pups in the A/C while visiting our favorite OBX place: Nags Head Church.

After an excellent service, we stopped at Harris Teeter and filled the truck with diesel, then headed back to the campground to hook up and go home
Ruby learned how to use the RV stairs on her first camping trip. We worked hard on potty training, and the dogs learned to become more of a unit, everyone finding their place in the pack.
