“Lisa’s turning 60 and I want to throw her a surprise party .”
When Dave called and told us to mark our calendars for this weekend, we immediately did. I volunteered to help in any way I could. Working with their youngest son, Joey, we planned the decorations.
“This is the perfect trip to test out the new rig.”
Our reliable truck, Max, had become unreliable. The DEF problems, a system on diesel trucks designed to protect the environment, had started failing and had a hefty repair price tag. After three visits to the shop in less than two months, we replaced it with Crystal, a 2024 Bighorn left on the lot that came with a $20,000 discount.
Leaving around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, we took Crystal on her maiden voyage with Atlas, enjoying the new ride.
“I don’t think I told you, but you guys got site one.”
When Ron checked us in at Rocky Hock Campground, we got the wonderful news that they upgraded us to our favorite waterside site beside the golf course. Unfortunately, we forgot our clubs, but the office had a set we could use. Ron would have to play with right-handed clubs; they had no left-handed gear.

As soon as we had set up camp, I began working on centerpieces for Lisa’s party while Ron relaxed with the pups.

After finishing those, we ate dinner and then took the pups for a stroll on the golf course. Ducks and geese mingled with us, a heron made its presence known, and we enjoyed a relaxing evening at the camper, topped off with a fire.
Sleeping late on Saturday morning, I awoke in time to see the sunrise. Reading my Bible by the pond, I loved the warmth of the sun’s rays, the roosters crowing “Good morning,” the birds singing, and the bugs chirping.
A slight breeze kept me cool, the flow of air over my body invigorating, and the fresh smells of nature tantalizing. Ron slept the morning away, enjoying the extended rest.
We enjoyed a lazy Saturday with beautiful weather, lots of naps, and a little shopping.

After decorating for Lisa’s party, we enjoyed the Rock Fish Festival and its musicians.
“I had no idea.” Lisa’s surprise brought joy to our hearts as we celebrated her birthday with family and friends. A huge success, everyone had fun, ate deliciuos food and drank delightful drinks.
Sunday morning, rain poured as we packed up and headed home, another fun weekend in Edenton to fill our memory book.
